The Restart Program was originally a Government initiative aimed at increasing the literacy levels of identified students in the lower third of Year 7 through several testing procedures. Our school has chosen to continue with the program. Selected students are immersed in a variety of literacy activities for three sessions per week on a one to one, or small group basis. These classes are tailored to meet the specific needs of the students and lift their self-esteem. At the end of the year the students are retested against the control group. Results show that the students have significantly improved their literacy skills.
