Where Are We?
Casterton is
situated 353km West of Melbourne and is approximately 70 km from both
Hamilton and Mt. Gambier. Casterton
nestles in a picturesque valley surrounded by rolling red gum hills. The
Glenelg River meanders through the township. Casterton
Secondary College services the needs of, and provides opportunities for, the
people of Strathdownie, Dergholm, Coleraine, Merino and Casterton. Students come
predominantly from rural or semi-rural backgrounds.
Who Are We?
Casterton Secondary College
is a 7-12 stand alone Government school located in Casterton, Victoria.
Casterton is situated in the South Western District and is close to the
border of South Australia. The population of Casterton is approximately
1800. The college's main feeder schools are Casterton Primary School, Sacred
Heart Primary School, Merino Consolidated School, Coleraine Primary School
and St Josephs, Coleraine. The student population is approximately 210.

The College seeks to
provide an environment that encourages all students to do their best and
promotes a learning atmosphere which is safe and inviting. Academically, we
try to make the school experience challenging, rewarding and enriching.
Casterton Secondary College seeks to promote positive relationships based on
trust and respect. We encourage values of individual dignity and worth;
originality; initiative and independence. Our school history reflects a
strong sense of community in our students. All students are encouraged to
develop social awareness and high self-esteem.
Our school seeks to
encourage those skills that will assist students to pursue future employment
opportunities. We also promote the idea of lifelong learning in our
students.
Sequential courses of
study are provided for Years 7-10 in each of the national curriculum areas
using a mix of core and elective units. With a large Year 11 and 12 student
population, the school offers a broad range of VCE units. An enrichment
program has been developed for talented students at levels 7-11. Learning
support is also implemented to address the particular needs of those
students who are identified as requiring extra assistance.
Students are encouraged to
participate in Performing Arts, together with local, state and national
competitions. The aim is to provide students with experience in areas which
they enjoy and in which they can excel. CSC also performs strongly in
sporting competitions at local, regional and state levels. Sport gives all
students an opportunity to experience competition, team bonding and success.
The pursuit of excellence is encouraged in all co-curricular activities.
 The Year 8-10 vertical
modular system is designed to provide a caring, supportive environment as
well as encouraging teamwork, leadership and a sense of belonging. Each
house group has its own recognisable identity but has a common commitment to the
shared goals of the school.
The Staff at CSC are a
group of dedicated, professional educators, who place great importance on
professional development, and willingly contribute to the school's
co-curricular activities. They are fully committed to working to achieve the
best possible learning outcomes for the students.
Parent participation is
highly valued, with many opportunities for parents to provide advice and
assistance to the school, through involvement in the Cobbodah Community, the
Canteen, "Bridging the Gap" and School Council.
Our recently updated
educational facilities are located within award winning landscaped grounds,
including a sporting stadium, cafeteria, canteen, BBQ area, library,
computer rooms, careers room, games courts and oval.
The School Council has a
strong input into the decision-making within the school. The core purpose of
teaching and learning is seen as a shared process involving parents,
teachers and students.
